The Family Centre is entering an exciting new chapter as we expand and evolve our clinical services to better support people with type 1 diabetes – at every age and stage of life.
As part of this growth, I’m proud to share that I’ve stepped into a new role as Clinical Director. This marks a significant shift both for me and for the Centre, and reflects our mission to become Australia’s most trusted, community-based, hyper-specialised service for people living with type 1.
In this role, I’ll be focused on growing our team into a multidisciplinary service that truly meets the complex and evolving needs of our community. To hit the ground running, I’ll be mentoring a new Credentialled Diabetes Educator, and in the pipeline I will be looking to recruit a Nurse Practitioner (think prescriptions and referrals available directly from the Family Centre!), as well as developing satellite clinics across WA, and expanding our online training for health professionals (because we know you'd like your healthcare team to understand more about type 1!). It’s a big step, and one I’m incredibly excited and honoured to take on.
What does this mean for our patients?
I’ll still be consulting in clinic, but with reduced hours so that I can dedicate time to building and supporting our growing team. If you already have an appointment booked with me, I look forward to seeing you! We are aiming for minimal disruption as we reduce my clinic load, but we may need to shift your time or day slightly. Our reception team will be in touch and we’ll do everything we can to find a time that works.
If a quicker or more flexible option suits you better, I’m pleased to let you know that Beck and Bec, two exceptional clinicians whom I’ve personally mentored (and continue to support behind the scenes), are available for appointments. They're ready to welcome you with the same standard of care you’re used to. And with our new CDE-in-training joining the team, even more support is on the way.
What does this mean for referring clinicians?
I am still accepting referrals and will continue to support complex cases directly. For patients who prefer not to wait, I’ll match them with the most appropriate clinician from our team. I remain closely involved in every patient’s care journey through ongoing clinical oversight and team mentorship.
We’re building something really special, and I’m so excited about what’s ahead. If you have questions, please give us a call.
