  • Nurse Practitioner

  • Accredited Practising Dietitian

  • Credentialled Diabetes Educator

  • Eating Disorder Clinician

Beck is both a Nurse Practitioner and an Accredited Practising Dietitian. She has over 30 years’ experience as a health professional and has post-graduate qualifications in diabetes and mental health and is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator and Credentialled Eating Disorder Clinician – a unique combination.

This diverse background, scope of training and experience enables her to provide a broad range of support for people aged 16+ impacted by type 1 diabetes.

Beck is known for her warmth and understanding. In her friendly, approachable way, she ensures that you feel empowered and confident in developing a plan that aligns with your goals, priorities, experience, lifestyle, and personal preferences. She can deliver integrated medical, nutritional, and psychosocial care in one appointment.

As a Nurse Practitioner and Diabetes Educator, Beck can:

•     Independently assess, diagnose and plan your treatment - without needing to go back to your GP first - or continue working collaboratively with your GP. The choice is yours.

•     Prescribe medications and issue scripts.

•     Medical, nutrition and metabolic support through perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause and for polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).

•     Order and assess pathology tests and other relevant investigations.

•     Initiate and optimise diabetes medications and technology, including continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps. I'm a Certified Product Trainer for Omnipod, Tandem T-Slim, Medtronic/MiniMed, and MyLife YpsoPump.

•     Complete NDSS forms — registration, blood glucose monitoring equipment, CGM access, insulin needles, and pump consumables.

•     Complete fitness-to-drive assessments for diabetes.

•     Provide absence-from-work/school certificates.

•     Write specialist referral letters.

•     Write letters of clinical need to support private health insurance funding for insulin pumps.

•     Deliver integrated medical, nutritional, and psychosocial care.

As a Dietitian, Beck can provide you:

·       Personalised nutrition - working with you to find the most suitable approach for your long-term health goals.

·       Carb awareness and counting education; finding blood glucose friendly foods for whichever eating approach you use and insulin dosing suggestions for different types of foods.

·       Strategies for meeting nutritional requirement and improved glucose levels for various eating approaches, including lower carb eating, gluten free, plant based, animal based etc.

·       A nutrition approach to manage insulin resistance and other metabolic conditions such as fatty liver, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and PMOS.

·       Dietary support for people wanting to manage their mental health through diet and for people using medical weight-loss medications or recovering from bariatric surgery.

·       Managing worries or anxiety about food, insulin and body image to enhance your sense of general wellbeing and develop a healthy relationship with food and your body.

·       Dietary support and psychologically-informed approaches for disordered eating and eating disorders.

Beck sees patients in in person at Stirling (Perth) and Busselton as well as via Telehealth (Australia-wide).

Beck’s appointments attract Nurse Practitioner Medicare rebates for everyone with a Medicare card. That means you don’t need a referral or a GP Chronic Conditions Management Plan (CCMP) to claim a rebate for most appointments.

However, if your appointment is for dietetic care only (for example, nutrition management without diabetes education or eating disorder nutrition support), a GP CCMP or Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDTP) is still needed to access a Medicare rebate. If you don’t have a GP CCMP or EDTP and you are covered for Dietetics, your Private Health Insurer may issue you a rebate.

Beck has the skill and knowledge required to guide you toward becoming

highly proficient at managing type 1 effectively. She is here to help you

enhance your sense of general wellbeing.
