About the event
What does it take to run 100km with type 1 diabetes? Ask ultramarathoner Duncan Read, and he’ll tell you it’s not just about fitness—it’s about mindset, strategy, and an unwavering belief that type 1 diabetes doesn’t get to set your limits.
In this powerful live-streamed event, Duncan will share his extraordinary journey from diagnosis to the finish line of some of the world's most gruelling endurance events – races of over 100km each, with some as long as 250kms! He’ll talk about the highs and lows (both on the trail and in managing type 1) and the life lessons he's learned along the way. Whether you’re an experienced athlete, a weekend walker, or still figuring out how to walk the dog without a crashing hypo, Duncan’s story will leave you feeling energised and empowered.
Joining Duncan is Beck Newton, a powerhouse in diabetes education and clinical care. A registered nurse, diabetes educator and dietitian, Beck brings over two decades of experience supporting people with type 1. She’ll break down how different types of exercise affect blood glucose levels, and share practical, evidence-based strategies to help you exercise with confidence, no matter your fitness goals.
