December 2019

It's the last edition of Tribe Talk for 2019 and we've got loads of news to share! This month, our CEO Bec launches her massive Life without Limits swim campaign, committing to swimming three ultramarathons in three months for the Family Centre.

November 2019

It's Diabetes Awareness Month and we're celebrating our community and the amazing connections our tribe has made across WA. we've got Part 2 of our Clinic Chat about long-acting insulins, Christmas events galore to sign up for, and a special note from our CEO Bec Johnson about the power of community.

October 2019

It's a jam-packed edition this month, with a huge result at the AHG Charity Walk for Type 1, Schools Education evaluation results hot off the press, new Diabetes Dinner and Teen Gatho events to sign up for, and a whole lot of action at the Family Centre. We do a deep dive into insulins in Clinic Chat, and there's a terrific Halloween-inspired recipe your family will love.

September 2019

In this edition, you can read about the terrific year the Family Centre has had with a special report from our Chair, Jeff Newman OAM, and CEO, Bec Johnson. We've also got exciting news: type 1 TV personality and Medtronic Ambassador Rob Palmer is BACK for one night only at the Family Centre!

August 2019

This month, the Family Centre made national news with the launch of our Australia-first carbohydrate counting program, Cyber Carbs! We're also thrilled that we're finalists in the Telstra Business Awards as WA Social Change Makers!

July 2019

The Family Centre turns 4, and you can help us celebrate our birthday by donating to our $4 for our 4th campaign! Sign up for our upcoming Mindset Information Night featuring superstar type 1 diabetic ultrarunner Duncan Read, check out our new Diabetes Dinner event, and read up on all the fun activities we've been up to this July!

June 2019

The Family Centre is on the road visiting GP practices, hospital clinics and pharmacies to raise important awareness of the needs of people with type 1 diabetes and the Family Centre's vital services. We have plenty of events for people of all ages coming up - register now for our Metabolism Information Night, our Winter Wonderland community event, Kids in the Kitchen, our Latitude excursion and Diabetes Dinners!

May 2019

Check out our upcoming Metabolism Information Night. We've also got our huge Winter Wonderland community event and Teen Gatho coming up, and registrations are open for Spring Family Camp! We're celebrating some truly amazing fundraising for the Family Centre with the annual Flametree Wines Charity Lunch and type 1 mum Teresa Newton's mega netball fundraiser.

May 2020

In this edition of Tribe Talk, we launch our new Cyber Carbs Minis: fast, bite-sized education courses on specific carb-counting topics, including reading nutrition labels, calculating insulin to carbohydrate ratios, and using apps to calculate your macros. We also interview Dr Jeremy Robertson, who this month became the first type 1 diabetic pilot in Australia to gain his commercial pilot's licence, and our very own Adult Community Coordinator Gabby Lane shares what she learned during her recent diabetes technology break.

April 2020

In this edition of Tribe Talk, read about how our modified services are meeting our community's needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, check out our terrific new 'Isolation Birthday' resources, join our 'Let's Get Physical' challenge and warm your heart with Bryce and Felix's story. There's an easy carb-conscious recipe that's perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner, some terrific tips about basal insulin testing, and a final message from our CEO Bec Johnson about her Life without Limits campaign, which raised $82,500 for the Family Centre.

February 2020

In this edition of Tribe Talk, we remember our roots: read the Family Centre's story, told by our Chair and Founder, Jeff Newman OAM. The countdown is on for our CEO Bec Johnson's first big swim of the Life without Limits campaign, the Rottnest Channel Swim on 22 February. We're launching brand new Diabetes Dads and Type 1 Mums' groups, and you can read about type 1 cyclist Brett Baker's epic adventure through the Victorian highlands. Finally, Clinic Chat by Amy Rush APD CDE gives you the lowdown on protein supplements and diabetes.

2020 has landed at the Family Centre and it's going to be our biggest year yet! With exciting plans to grow our impact to reach and serve even more of the type 1 community of WA, our team is full of beans and raring to go! January is all about GOALS. In this edition of Tribe Talk, we've got articles on exercising with type 1 and keeping your New Year's Resolutions, and you can register for free mental wellness programs for young people.

At the Family Centre, we're excited to step into the new year with the first edition of Tribe Talk for 2019! It's full speed ahead at the Family Centre; in this edition of our bi-monthly newsletter Tribe Talk, register for our exciting new webinar on alcohol and type 1 diabetes, our jam-packed school holiday program, a Keto in the Kitchen workshop and Yoga for Mental Health.
