The Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our Chair, Peter Bennett.
Peter first encountered the Family Centre through a fishing trip we organised for dads and their children living with type 1 diabetes. He arrived that day with his son, and from the beginning Peter brought the warm and thoughtful presence that so many of us would come to know. We didn’t catch any fish, but from that day forward Peter and the Family Centre were connected.
Peter went on to serve as Chair of the Family Centre for four years. Despite the many demands on his time - as a husband, a devoted father to two children including one living with type 1 diabetes, CEO of Clough, and Chair of CEOs for Gender Equity - he led our Centre with generosity, collaboration and deep respect for the community we serve.
Peter brought both vision and humility to his leadership. Earlier this year he played an instrumental role in helping the Centre secure its first government funding grant, an important milestone that will allow the Family Centre to expand its impact for Western Australians living with type 1 diabetes.
Above all, Peter cared deeply about improving life for people living with type 1 diabetes and their families. His leadership strengthened our organisation and community, bringing a thoughtful, collaborative approach that helped the Centre grow with confidence and purpose.
Peter’s passing is a profound loss to the Family Centre and to all who had the privilege of working with him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time, and we remain deeply grateful for the many ways Peter supported the type 1 community.
Vale Peter.
