About the event
This is the official launch of our T1D community in the South West! 🙌🏻
There’s no single way to live with type 1 diabetes. That’s exactly what makes it interesting to hear how someone else does it.
Join us for a relaxed evening of good food, honest conversation and connection with other adults living with type 1 diabetes in the South West.

We’ll start with an interview-style conversation with South West local Nina Gelbke, better known as Naturally Nina. Nina will share her diagnosis story, what life with type 1 looks like for her, and how her work in nutrition and exercise has shaped the way she manages diabetes. We’ll also talk openly about some of the more complicated parts of that relationship, including Nina’s experience with disordered eating.
Then the conversation opens up to you. There’ll be plenty of time to ask Nina your own questions, compare experiences and hear how someone else approaches the everyday realities of living with type 1.
Afterwards, we’ll sit down for dinner and drinks together. No presentations, no awkward networking, and no expectation that you need to know anyone before you arrive. Just a chance to meet other people who understand the strange calculations, decisions and curveballs that come with type 1.
Dinner and drinks are included, and partners, friends or other support people are very welcome to come along.
The evening also marks the official launch of the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre’s South West peer support program.
We’ll be working with local champions across the region to create more opportunities for adults with type 1 to connect, from casual coffees and dinners to other social catch-ups shaped by what the local community actually wants.
So whether you’re keen to hear Nina’s story, curious about how other people live with type 1, or simply want to meet a few people nearby who get it, we’d love to have you around the table.
This event is possible thanks to funding from WA Department of Health.
