About the event
Hybrid-closed-loop systems have come a long way in the last 5 years. Options such CamAPS, Tandem's Control IQ, and Medtronic's Auto Mode have improved people's time in range, freed them from thinking so much about diabetes, and given them countless hours of sleep back! All of these systems have their limitations though, and you don't have full control over how they work. That's where open-source looping comes in.
While these systems come with their risks, they do have a lot of features that aren't yet available in the commerical systems, such as bolusing from your watch, bolusing for your child's meals remotely, or adding the functionality of an algorithm to your Omnipod. But the barrier to entry can be quite high, given it's a technical process to set up. In this workshop, DIY looping expert David Burren (lovingly known as the Bionic Wookie online) will be on hand to help you set up your very own DIY looping system.
First up, we'll cover what DIY looping is, the advantages of these systems over those that are commercially available, the various types of loops, as well as the associated risks with using these systems.
After lunch, we'll split into groups based on which systems people are wanting to build, and get stuck in. David, and other experienced members of the looping community, will be on hand to help you through the process.
